The requirement
The independent villa is primarily used as a holiday home and is sometimes unattended while its owners are away. The priority was to monitor the main gate, driveway, parking, perimeter movement, garden and service entrance, while also providing selected internal circulation coverage and reliable remote access.
Site challenge
The large landscaped perimeter needed useful coverage without excessive visible cabling or visually intrusive camera positions. Planting and changing outdoor sightlines also had to be considered when selecting mounting points.
System and equipment
WatchGrid installed Hikvision DS-2CD2347G2-L 4 MP ColorVu turret cameras at key positions and DS-2CD2043G2-I 4 MP IR bullet cameras at selected perimeter locations. Ten cameras were connected by Cat6 Ethernet with PoE to a Hikvision DS-7616NI-K2/16P 16-channel PoE NVR. A 4 TB surveillance-grade hard drive was configured for approximately 15–20 days of recording, depending on scene activity and recording settings. Exposed outdoor cable routes were protected in conduit.
Work completed
- Installed cameras at the main gate, driveway, parking area and front entrance
- Covered the rear entrance, garden, side passage and service entrance
- Added indoor views at the ground-floor circulation area and staircase/common area
- Configured separate mobile access for the owner, a family member and the caretaker/property manager
- Provided UPS protection for the NVR, network equipment and associated CCTV equipment
- Tested live view, playback, recording and remote access before handover
Project outcome
The villa’s principal access points and outdoor activity areas were brought under continuous video surveillance. The owners can check the property remotely from their phones while away, and the PoE layout avoids separate power cabling at each camera. The equipment is covered by a two-year warranty, with an annual AMC available as an option.
