A CCTV system should work as a system

Our working method connects site assessment, equipment selection, installation, secure configuration, commissioning and preventive maintenance.

The WatchGrid technical standard

Specific checks, not vague quality claims

Standards inform equipment selection and working methods. They do not mean WatchGrid is a BIS-certified installer or that every installation is automatically certified.

IS 16910

System-design reference

Our survey and system-design method references relevant parts of the Indian Standard for video surveillance systems where applicable.

ER 01:2024

Cybersecurity considered

For connected systems we consider credentials, user access, firmware, secure remote viewing, data transit and network configuration.

25 points

Installation QA

Camera position, image quality, recording, playback, storage, power, cabling, weather sealing, access and handover are checked before completion.

12 points

AMC health check

Preventive maintenance covers cameras, image quality, night vision, housings, cabling, power, recorders, storage and remote access.

The WatchGrid 5-layer CCTV standard

1. Site assessment

We identify the purpose of surveillance, entrances, exits, blind spots, lighting conditions, privacy-sensitive areas, cable paths, weather exposure, network availability and recording requirements before finalising equipment.

2. System design

Camera type, lens, resolution, night performance, recorder capacity, retention period, power supply and network architecture are selected together. Relevant parts of the IS 16910 series for video surveillance systems in security applications inform the design method where applicable.

3. Secure installation

Mounting, cable routing, terminations, protected junctions, weather sealing, recorder location, power protection and network access are checked as part of installation. For products supplied in India, we check applicable BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme and CCTV security requirements with the manufacturer or authorised supply channel.

4. Commissioning before handover

The completed system is tested for live view, recording, playback, storage, camera naming, date and time, day and night image, mobile viewing, user permissions, power recovery and agreed alerts. The customer receives access and basic operating guidance.

5. Lifecycle maintenance

Preventive maintenance reviews camera health, image quality, night vision, housings, cables, power, recorder and storage health, network access and recording/playback. Commercial AMC work can be documented through a system-health report.

Indian standards and security references

IS 16910 series

The BIS IS 16910 series covers video surveillance systems for security applications, including system requirements, interfaces, data specifications, image-quality performance and installation guidance. WatchGrid references relevant provisions as a design input. This is not a claim that WatchGrid is an “IS 16910 certified installer.”

BIS ER 01:2024 for CCTV security

Connected CCTV is also an IT system. BIS ER 01:2024 addresses CCTV security areas such as debug-interface protection, device-specific cryptographic keys, secure storage, boot validation, memory protection, data-transit security, server validation, firmware updates, wireless authentication and supply-chain controls.

For suitable connected systems, our configuration review considers strong administrator credentials, separate user accounts, least-necessary permissions, firmware status, secure remote access, wireless security and disabling unnecessary services.

Product compliance is different from installer certification

CCTV cameras and related electronics may be subject to product-specific Indian safety and security requirements. We verify applicable equipment claims against manufacturer documentation and supply-channel records. A compliant product does not automatically make the installer, the premises or the entire system “BIS certified.”
