The requirement
The technology-enabled professional services company was fitting out a new single-floor office with 45 workstations. The requirement was to monitor important entry, visitor and security-sensitive areas without pointing cameras at individual desks or creating unnecessary surveillance of employees.
Site challenge
Camera positions needed to document movement through the office’s access points and selected common areas while respecting the agreed privacy boundary. The CCTV network also needed controlled user access, dependable backup power and straightforward maintenance after handover.
System and equipment
Eight Hikvision DS-2CD2347G2-L 4 MP ColorVu turret cameras were connected with Cat6 structured Ethernet cabling to a Hikvision DS-7616NI-K2/16P 16-channel PoE NVR. A 4 TB surveillance hard drive provided approximately 20–25 days of recording. The NVR’s integrated PoE ports served the cameras, and CCTV traffic was kept separate from normal employee access where the network architecture permitted.
Work completed
- Covered the main entrance, reception/visitor area, main passage and rear/service entrance
- Added views at the server/network-room entrance, records/storage area, staff/common-area access point and parking/approach area
- Deliberately excluded employee desks from camera views
- Configured administrator, management-viewer and restricted-viewer access levels
- Enabled remote viewing and provided UPS protection for the NVR and network equipment
- Tested image quality, recording, playback, user permissions and remote access before handover
Project outcome
An eight-camera surveillance system was commissioned across the office’s key access and security-sensitive areas in 1.5 working days. Management received remote access and three defined permission levels, while employee workstations remained outside the intended coverage. The system was placed under a 12-month AMC with quarterly preventive-maintenance visits.
Ongoing maintenance
AMC visits include camera cleaning and alignment, image-quality checks, NVR and hard-drive health, recording and playback verification, remote-access testing, network and PoE checks, cable and connector inspection, firmware/configuration review and a record of faults identified.
